Several area students received recognition at the recent North Carolina History Day competition in Raleigh.
Ten area winners qualified for National History Day, being held this week in Maryland. Other state-level winners included:
Zach Aldridge and Blake Aldridge, St. Peter's Catholic School, honorable mention, junior group documentary for "Brown vs. Board of Education: Conflicts in a Student's Civil Rights Ends in a Compromise of Desegregation in Public Schools."
Philip Barefoot and Nick Cristiano, J.H. Rose High School, senior level American legal system prize for "Section 2 of the 25th Amendment: Vice Presidential Vacancy"
Meagan Briley, C.M. Eppes Middle School, junior level Civil War history for "Innovation on the Homefront: Commodity Substitution in the Civil War."
Emily Clark and Shannon Phelps, junior level group exhibition prize for "Ruby Bridges."
Addie Kate Kunkel, St. Peter's, junior level medical history for "The Bubonic Plague."
Victoria Whitson, Greene Central High School, senior level military history for "Fallen Cherry Blossoms Never Return: Japanese Special Attack Forces in the Conflict at Okinawa"
Helen Mary Hamilton of St. Peter's, junior level naval history for "Raid on Tokyo."
