ECU theater
East Carolina University summer theater will present "The Boy Friend" through July 5 at the historic Turnage Theater, 144 W. Main St., Washington, N.C. Wine tastings
Beef Barn, 400 St. Andrews Drive, will hold its weekly "Drink Wine With Bob Thursday" wine tasting from 5:30-7 p.m. each Thursday in July. Beef Barn owner and wine expert Bob Simon selects six wines for the tasting. Cost is $10 for the sampling and light hors d'oeuvres; special prices by the glass or bottle are available. Pirate's Pub, 1914 Turnbury Drive, holds a wine tasting from 6-8 p.m. every Thursday. The tasting will include a featured wine of the week, as well as white and red sangrias. Appetizers are served. Call 355-7956.

Fourth of July
The City of Greenville and the Greenville Jaycees will hold its annual 4th of July celebration beginning at 4 p.m. July 4 on the Town Common on First Street. Festivities will include carnival rides, arts and crafts, music, vendors, food and a fireworks display at 9 p.m. Free. Call 931-2854.
The Farmville Development Partnership will host the annual Fourth of July Celebration on the Walter B. Jones Town Common. The event will begin with a ground-breaking of the Farmville Veterans Monument at 7 p.m. The Tar River Community Band will provide music, and radio personality John Moore will be on hand to provide additional music and emcee the event. Farmville American Legion Post 151 will sell hot dogs and soft drinks, and Piggly Wiggly of Farmville has donated watermelons. The food, including a large celebratory cake, will be available at the Town Common from 7-9 p.m. The fireworks show will begin at 9 p.m. For more information, call the partnership at 753-4670.
Tryon Palace
Tryon Palace, 610 Pollack St., New Bern, will hold Fourth of July festivities from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. July 4. A dramatic reading of the Declaration of Independence will be held at 11 a.m. from the Palace steps by costumed characters portraying famus North Carolinians from the Revolutionary era. 6:22 concert
The 6:22 band will perform its final concert of the New Beginnings Tour at 7 p.m. July 4 at Faith Assembly of God, 5005 Corey Road, Winterville. The local Christian band has been touring since January. Visit www.622worship.org.

Dinner theater
Deadwood, 2302 Ed's Grocery Road, Williamston, will present "The Trial of Jack McCall" at 7 p.m. July 5. The play is based on the real-life trial of Jack McCall that was held in South Dakota. Dog show
The Greenville Recreation & Parks Department will hold its annual Kids' Dog Show at 6 p.m. July 8 at the Off-Leash Dog Park, the corner of Ash Street and River Drive. Dogs enter as best looking, best trick, funniest, smallest, largest, and best costume. Dogs must be on a leash during the show. Ages of children must be 4-13. Rock the Vote
A Rock the Vote Pool Party sponsored by mixer, The Exchange at Greenville and 99.5 the X, will be held from noon-6 p.m. July 10 at The Exchange, 1920 Exchange Drive. Bald Eagles
Goose Creek State Park, 2190 Camp Leach Road, Washington, N.C., will hold a program on Bald Eagles at 3 p.m. July 13 for all ages. The symbol of America was almost wiped off the planet during the 1970s. During this hourlong program, we'll have a discussion of this magnificent bird, its natural history as well as man's impact on its survival. The program will be followed by a hike along Goose Creek for a chance glimpse of the area eagles. Be prepared to travel as a group down to the parking area about two miles from the visitor center. Ham's and hogs
Ham's Restaurant and Brewhouse is throwing its third-annual Ham's and Hogs Charity Ride for A-T Children's Project from 11 a.m.-2 a.m. July 19. About 50-100 (maybe more) riders from Harley Davidson will be ready to ride with donors who give $20 to Ham's restaurants in Kinston and Goldsboro before heading back to Pitt County. The restaurant will also have a Southern-style pig picking on the patio for $5 a plate, which includes potato salad and cole slaw. Three bands will perform. Call 830-2739.
Speed Racer
East Carolina Motor Speedway, 4918 U.S. 64 Alternate, Robersonville, will hold car races in all classes at 7 p.m. July 19. The grandstands open at 5 p.m. and qualifying races begins at 5:30.
