Letter: Loudspeakers needed for campus warnings

Monday, April 23, 2007

I understand from what was published in the April 17 Daily Reflector that Virginia Tech has a public address system that wasn't used (to warn students during the April 16 shooting). If this is true, it was a terrible error. I surely hope that ECU has a PA system in and on all campus buildings, and if not, installation should start immediately.

Sending e-mails to warn students of eminent danger is stupid when old fashioned loudspeakers would really get the job done.

These speakers with flashing lights would be a valuable alarm system. At times, vocal announcements as well as coded alarms could be sent. We need to prepare for the worst and pray for the best.
